Woodhead MRT's 'Mountain and Outdoor' First Aid course
(too old to reply)

Hi All,

Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team are running a couple more of their weekend
first aid courses. The course has been accredited by the MLTB so meets the
requirements for SPA, ML etc. Its also directly relevant to the outdoors,
much of the training takes place outside and the weekend culminates in a
fairly full on exercise out on the hill. (For what its worth, you also get
an 'Appointed Person' thingummy thrown in, for use at work.)

The courses are running
20-22 April 2007 and
25-27 May 2007
(From early evening Friday through to Sunday afternoon.)

and the cost is £85 per person, with all the proceeds going to fund the MRT
and SARDA (Search and Rescue Dog Association)

If you're interested, please respond in this thread or drop me a mail, and
I'll put you in touch.

Apologies for the distinctly spam-like quality of this post - I see it as a
public service announcement.

(I have nothing to do with the course, btw, I'm just a former punter - did
it a while back and thought it was rather excellent value for money.)

Thanks for posting that. I am looking to renew mine but unfortunately
I'm busy both those weekends. If you hear of any more please post them
too, thanks.

Ok, I'll try to remember to do that. :)

Alternatively, there seems to be a similar course in Wales, on a different
weekend in May (12th and 13th) here:

Are you referring to the "Casualty Care Courses"- these normally have
limited numbers of applicants.?

Er.. no. Those dates are for the 'Mountain First Aid' course. Yes, numbers
are limited - according to the website there are still spaces on that one.

I'm not sure what a 'casualty care course' is - would that be the more
advanced one they mention?

Dunno, this isn't the course I was actually plugging when I started the
thread. 'Mountain and Outdoor First Aid Course' sums that one up pretty
well I'd say. (That has limited numbers too, but spaces are still
available 20-22 April and 25-27 May.)

I'd take you up on the offer, but you're a few hundred kilometers too far.

Anyone running a similar *weekend* course in North Eryri?

Especially for a similar price.

I've hopefully got my ML summer training booked, if they have spaces and
work agree to fund it (before my resignation takes effect - long story).

Your idea sounds like it might be a good one.

Failing that:
Cara, who organises the Woodhead (Peak District) course is pretty good at
organising lift-shares. (Or at least at putting people in touch.) If all
else fails, there are always lifts available from the nearest station.

I don't know the chap who organises the CRTMedical course, but from his
posts on UKC he seems like a good egg. It might be worth dropping him an
email to see if you could sort out a car-share or a lift from a railway
station somewhere.

Walking there does sound better though. (Its a pretty full-on weekend, if i
were you I'd still be looking to organise a ride home. :)

I'll keep a note of that then, thanks.

I'm off for my ML Training in May, over 3 weekends, so i'm effectively
'grounded' in April to keep the other half happy! No, fair play to her, i'm
off on the weekend she wants to celebrate her birthday, so i'm lucky to go.
Work paying too, so i'm well happy.

We were on the course last weekend, and I can't recommend it too
highly. A great bunch of people, and a superb course, which unlike
some 1st aid courses gives you information that might actually be
useful when you're more than 5 minutes from the nearest road!

Some more info and contact details here
http://www.ukclimbing.com/forums/t.php?t=233674

As an indication of their growing reputation, people last weekend
travelled from as far as Devon to get there.

Go on, you know you want to...
